Wedding - Catherine & Charlotte

I may have tempted fate by making a comment about dodging heavy rain in a previous post because this wedding had a year's worth of bad weather in 10 hours. It was the weekend half of Northumberland disappeared under 2 feet of water and we were not far off suffering the same fate. In spite of the wind and rain and a stranded registrar and the threat of having to evacuate the venue. Charlotte and Catherine did exactly what I tell every client to do when they ask about bad weather on their day - they didn't let it get to then. You can't do anything about it so be happy and enjoy your day. From a photographic point of view this was undoutedly the hardest environment to work in I've ever encountered. Heavy cloud meant very low light levels, rain and wind meant no going outside and the delays meant we had to be creative with the shot schedule. This was a challenge with a capital 'C'. Fortunately the registrar finally made it and a very moving ceremony took place on the grand staircase at Dissington Hall. You almost can't tell how bad the weather was from the pics!

Pre-wed shoot: Anna & Ritzy

I photographed Anna a while ago, so you might recognize her face from my website. It was great to get to shoot her again, together with her husband-to-be. Ritzy (preferred nickname in case you were wondering) runs a great personal training business and gym but for some reason was a little bit camera shy. Maybe it was another case of just not having seen any decent photos of himself. Hopefully, I can begin to change his mind. Can't wait for the wedding at the end of October - look out for a rather special and unique wedding dress! My fingers are already crossed for the weather.

Wedding - Helen & Angus

If you are getting married in the UK and you are after a 'fairytale' kind of feel for your wedding you're probably going to think about a castle, at some point, for your venue . If you are planning a wedding in the North East of England you are spoilt for choice when it comes to castles and few, I think, are finer than Alnwick Castle. Helen and Angus based their whole day in Alnwick [getting ready, ceremony and reception] and I must say it was a fabulous occasion and a privelledge to photograph. The weather was fantastic with just the right amount of breeze for the veil! I managed not to fall in any water on this shoot (yes, it's that bride and groom) and I reckon I got some quite special shots as well. My first time at Alnwick Castle and I sincerely hope it won't be the last.

Destination Wedding - Santorini, Greece: Michelle & Kieran

It has been said that all men are equal but some men are more equal than others. I feel a similar way about weddings. All the weddings I've shot have been wonderful occasions but every now and then one comes along that is just that bit more 'equal' than the others. This would be one such wedding and I doubt anyone would disagree. I spent a week on the Greek Island of Thera (aka Santorini) with Michelle and Kieran photographing their wedding day and doing an additional shoot with them the following day. The experience was unforgettable and quite unique. These images are all from the second day of shooting. We worked for hours in various locations on the island, going well past sunset. Not even the absence of natual light was stopping me on this one. I even managed to get a few nice travel pics one the days when I wasn't photographing the bride and groom but I'll save them for another post. It has to be said that this is the perfect example of 'getting out what you put in'. All of my clients are keen to get good photos from their wedding day and as such don't mind giving me a few extra minutes of time on their wedding day if I ask for it, but Michelle & Kieran took this to a whole new level. I honestly think that they were a bit disappointed when I called time on the shoot at 10pm, they probably would have carried on til sunset! Now that is what I call keen. The results, I hope, speak for themselves. Anyone thinking of getting married abroad should definitely go for it. Kudos to Michelle and Kieran though, their wedding on Santorini was the culmination of over two years of planning and organising. An extraordinary wedding for an an extraordinary couple.
I feel honoured to have played a part in it.
